about me
My name is Galen Weld and I'm a first-year PhD student at the Allen School, a part of the University of Washington, in Seattle. An avid photographer, I've been taking photos since I was 8 years old. Originally from Seattle, I enjoy shooting landscapes and nature images, as well as adventure photography. When I'm not holding a camera, I love ice and rock climbing, mountaineering, skiing, and cycling.
Academically, I'm interested in applying computer science to real-world problems. I've worked at Walk Score on urban planning and development issues, with the ICTD lab at the University of Washington, developing mobile applications that are accessible to all, and on computer vision for accessibility. Currently, I work with Professor Tim Althoff studying online communities. More details can be found on my research page(s).
